Gifted & Talented and Learning Support
Gifted and Talented Program
As in the Junior School the goal of both the Gifted and Talented Program and of Learning Support in the Senior School is to help every child realise their potential. Students are placed in ability groups for English and Maths in years 7-10. Curriculum is differentiated and a Gifted and Talented Co-ordinator (part time) works with students and teachers to provide an inquiry based collaborative learning experience. Students are involved in the Honours Program, extension/enrichment programs and events such as Gateway 8 and the da Vinci Decathlon.
Learning Support Services
Learning Support (within the RTI P-12 framework) assists students to improve literacy and numeracy skills in the mainstream classroom in years 7-10. Learning Support Aides work across Key Learning Areas in classrooms. Students in years 11-12 are offered assistance in their study periods on an individual or small group basis. Help is also given with homework and assessment tasks during designated lunchtimes and after school on Tuesdays. Maths assistance is available Monday and Wednesday afternoons and Disability Provisions are organised for exams for years 7-12.
The Learning Support Co-ordinator works with teachers in programming, assessing, evaluating, creating resources and advising on appropriate classroom strategies for students with learning needs. Maintaining open communication with parents is an integral part of the Co-ordinator’s role.
